Frequently Asked Questions

New to OmCulture
Please arrive at least five minutes* before class starts. If you're a new student, please arrive fifteen minutes early, so you have plenty of time to complete a New Member Registration Form and settle in. For more information regarding class types and levels, please visit the Class Descriptions page.
Signing In

Please sign in at the front desk before every class you take. We have an iPad set up for easy check-in and purchasing passes. If the iPad is being used, feel free to check in directly with the front desk worker.

Arriving Late to Yoga Classes*

If you are arriving late to a yoga class, please wait until after opening meditation to enter the studio and unroll your mat and gather props. We often lock the door 10 minutes after class has begun; please call the studio to let us know if you're going to be arriving more than 10 minutes late.

Class Etiquette

Please turn off cell phones and pagers, and remove shoes before entering the studio. If you are new to the studio or to a particular teacher, please introduce yourself and tell the teacher about any pertinent injuries or limitations.

What should I bring?

OmCulture provides all props for yoga classes, including mats, but we highly recommend bringing your own yoga mat. Many practitioners bring a water bottle and small towel. There are no fees for use of studio props, but you can rent a mat for $1 each time. Yoga mats and props are also available for purchase at the Greenlake studio.

Is there a place to change and store my belongings?

Yes, there are bathrooms and changing rooms as well as storage cubbies available at each studio.

Where can I park?

Parking for both studios can be found in the neighborhoods behind and around the buildings. It is mostly street parking in both locations. At Wallingford, there are five parking spots right in front of the building. Do NOT park on either side of the Wallingford building - you will be towed. Please park horizontally to the building so we can fit a maximum number of cars in that area. It is fairly easy to find parking in the neighborhood and you can often find parking on the street below us "N Northlake Way" which has lots of angle parking.

Are the studios ADA accessible?

Yes, both studios are ADA accessible, The Greenlake studio has a ramp up to the front door and one of two bathrooms there is handicap accessible. The Wallingford studio has a handicap accessible bathroom and upon request, a ramp can be set up at the back door to accommodate wheelchairs/those needing a closer and easier entrance.

How much does it cost?

We offer a discounted pass to all first-time yoga members. If you would prefer to try just one yoga class, your first class is just $10! For ongoing members, we offer various passes to fit your budget and frequency of attendance; see our Pricing page for more details.

Do you offer financial aid?

Although we do not offer discounts, financial aid is available on a case-by-case basis. If you feel you need help affording our passes, please take a look at this form to see if you qualify. Then fill it out and send it to yoga@omculture.com to receive approval for your discount. *Discounts need to be applied for on an annual basis since life situations may change"

**We also offer the opportunity to be a Karma Yogi, where you can work our front desk/clean the studio in exchange for free classes. Apply on the Karma Yogi page today!**

I purchased a Groupon Deal... now what?

Our Groupon is for purchase by new members ONLY. Vouchers can only be redeemed in the studio! Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before class starts so you can fill out a waiver and our desk staff can add the pass to your account.

What is a typical OmCulture yoga class like?

No two yoga classes are alike. Each teacher brings a unique background to his or her classes. In general, yoga classes begin with a short meditation practice, ending with the chanting of om. The teacher will then lead the class through a sequence of postures (asanas) and movements (vinyasas); the pace and intensity of the class will depend on the level and style of the class. Please see our Teacher Bios and Class Descriptions to find the right class for you. Yoga classes end with final relaxation (savasana), another short period of meditation, and a final chanting of om.

* For the comfort and safety of our students, it is sometimes necessary to limit the number of people in a yoga class. If you arrive at the studio less than 5 minutes before yoga class begins, we cannot always guarantee you a spot. Typically we have plenty of space and do not fill to capacity, but please keep this policy in mind for classes that are consistently full.

Lost & Found

We provide a Lost and Found box for items students may leave behind. On the first day of each month, these items, including yoga mats, are removed and donated or disposed of. So please contact us in good time if you think you've left something at OmCulture! We keep valuables (keys, wallets, phones) longer. ID is required for pick up.

OmCulture will not be held responsible for lost or stolen items, under any circumstances.

Please refrain from bringing valuables into the studio.

New to Yoga
If you are new to yoga, we recommend participating in an Intro to Yoga Series prior to joining other classes. Pre-registration is required for Intro Series, but you are free to being taking other classes at any time.
What are the different styles of yoga?

At OmCulture, we offer many different styles of yoga. Each style has its benefits and we encourage each student to find the right class for them. Learn more on our Class Descriptions page.

What level is right for me?

All classes are geared toward the group. Every class will have its own feel and we always welcome anyone to join. To get a general guideline of which level might suit you best, visit our Class Descriptions page.

Do you do hot yoga?

No, we are not a hot yoga studio. We keep our classes at room temperature, and do our best to keep them as cool as possible in the summer, and comfortably warm in the winter.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable exercise clothing that is not baggy, so the teacher can see alignment. We practice in bare feet.

How many times per week should I practice?

Each student is unique, which means every practice is unique. You can start with just one hour per week or practice every day. You will probably discover that your desire to practice expands naturally.

Can I take yoga if I'm not flexible?

Yes! Absolutely. There's a misconception that you must be flexible to begin yoga, but in reality, yoga will help you become flexible, as well as build your strength, coordination, and overall well-being.

What if I feel self-conscious or the other students are more advanced?

Yoga is an internal practice. Our instructors are trained to help each student work at their own level. Always do what feels right for your body and don't push yourself into a pose that doesn't feel right. Every person has their own strengths, so comparing yourself to any other student will prevent you from reaching your own best practice. “A photographer gets people to pose for him. A yoga instructor gets people to pose for themselves.” -Jay Fields
